Instagram Expands on Threads Ranking

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently offered some more insight into how content is ranked in Threads, the company’s standalone messaging app. Threads was first launched in 2019 as a way for Instagram users to have more intimate conversations with their close friends. However, the app has struggled to gain traction, and many users have complained about its confusing interface and lack of features.

In an effort to make Threads more appealing, Instagram has been experimenting with a number of new features, including a more personalised ranking algorithm for content. In a recent interview, Mosseri explained that the company is taking a number of factors into account when ranking content in Threads, including the relationship between the user and the person who posted the content, the type of content, and how recently the content was posted.

Mosseri also said that Instagram is working to make Threads more relevant to users’ interests. For example, the app is now testing out a feature that would show users more content from people who they are following on Instagram.

Here are some of the key takeaways from Mosseri’s interview:

  • Instagram is taking a number of factors into account when ranking content in Threads, including the relationship between the user and the person who posted the content, the type of content, and how recently the content was posted.
  • Instagram is working to make Threads more relevant to users’ interests.
  • Instagram is still experimenting with a number of new features for Threads, and it is unclear which features will be rolled out more widely.

It is still too early to say whether Instagram’s new features for Threads will be enough to make the app more popular. However, the company’s efforts to improve the app are a sign that it is committed to making Threads a success.
